We’re more than just a moving company – we’re a proudly owned family business. Husband and Wife team Steve and Karyn are behind the wheel with Steve’s son Carl as Foreman. Their close-knit team are an extension of the BOP House Removals family.
As members of the community where we operate, we make a commitment to supporting the community in our area. From supplying houses to local schools for building projects, to support for the local Surf Life Saving Clubs with free delivery of their tiny house for auction – we are proud to support these incredible initiatives.
We are continuously striving to create a professional environment in our new yard and modern office equipment based in Whakatane. We aim to provide an honest and efficient service to a large range of clients, ranging from local families in need to property developers.
We use a combination of old school techniques while striving to keep up with the latest house moving transporters and machinery.
Steve’s Story – Moving Houses since the 80’s
While playing rugby league in the late 70’s & early 80s my coach at the time, Peter, had a house moving company in Auckand “Vear Houselifting” which is still in business today, being run by their youngest son Jason. Peter needed some grunt/labour to carry house blocks for a few days, so off I went to lend a hand. It wasn’t long before I left my current employment and started to work for him full time. This was my first taste of Housemoving. A couple of years after that, I was sent to another company in Auckland to help out for a few days. They did things a bit differently by using trailers “James Davern Ltd”, I stayed there until 1991. During this time aI gained a wealth of knowledge in old school house moving from two ‘legends’ of that era. – Kenny Hunt and Les Blair, taught me so much in the industry and work ethics, all of which I still use today.
In 1991, I moved to a relatively new company in Kumeu, Auckland “Craig Walker Building Removals”. Craig had been in the industry for many years previously. I went there as a Foreman and stayed in this role for the first 10-11 years then moved into a more managerial role in the operation of the company. This added another level of knowledge to running a business. Craig taught me so much in operations. In 2018, a long-time mate told me of a company for sale in Tauranga – BOP House Removals. In May that year, I purchased it and we became Bay of Plenty House Removals 2018 Ltd.
Carl, my middle son, was due back from travelling overseas and had also been in the industry since leaving school and joined us in Tauranga. Having Carl working closely beside me in all roles adds to the longevity of the company and is the future of our company for many years to come.
Today, Karyn (my wife, Sales Consultant), Carl (Foreman) and Matt (Operations Manager) and myself run the company.
